I got into SEO, or search engine optimization by accident really. It wasn’t intentional, all I wanted was to promote my website. Being a somewhat tight-fisted guy, I looked to do everything the cheapest way possible. So when it came to learning SEO, I went the self-learning route. I must admit though, that things worked out pretty well for me.
This is not supposed to be a step by step guide to learning SEO, so if you follow the steps I myself have taken, our results may vary so take what I have to say with a grain of salt and keep this as sort of a reference guide on what you can choose to do.
My SEO tale starts a few months after launching my own online business. The service I was offering was strong and I firmly believed that a whole slew of people would be clamoring for my services. But after a few stolid months of dismal sales, I knew I needed to do something to help perk my business up. But what can I do? My budget is low, how can I market it?
I then searched around until I saw several blogs about how to do SEO. Search engine optimization was a phenomenon I only heard about, but thought was useless. But then, my desperate situation pulled me to learn more about it and find out first hand if it really works. After all, what am I to lose? Profits were close to nil, I figured the only way left to go then, was up.
I became a regular visitor to these blogs, and after months of reading through each blog’s archives and keeping myself up to date with each new post, I found myself armed with SEO knowledge potent enough to make a difference. So I applied all that I learned. From building links, to video optimization and everything else in between. I worked on everything SEO for a solid two weeks.
So after all this hard work, it finally paid off. Sales peaked, not much at first but enough for me to notice something was up. I didn’t think it was because of the SEO, but when my profits started becoming serious money, it was then I did some analytics. Turned out my page was on the front page of Google, thus pulling in more customers. Now, I continue with the SEO, learn all the new stuff about it, and apply what I learn. I yearn to have the number one position and keep it there.
